AI is taking its place in NetSuite – but what does it really mean?

When NetSuite gathered customers and partners in Sydney in April, it wasn’t just another customer event. It was a strategic statement. Oracle NetSuite representatives weren’t just talking about the future – they were showing it off in real time. And it was artificial intelligence that took center stage.

As the applause rang out and the presentations rolled on, we sat with a distinct sense of curiosity. What does “AI directly built into NetSuite” really mean? Is it just another buzzword in the line, or a real shift in how we will work with business systems?

It’s easy to think that AI is mainly something that benefits large organizations with technical resources. But NetSuite’s message is the opposite: AI should be for everyone – and it shouldn’t cost extra. “AI is built in, not added on”, as Brian Chess, Head of AI Technology at Oracle NetSuite, put it. A bold promise in an industry where extra features often mean extra bills.

From bulleted lists to finished text – without intermediaries
But what has actually happened in the system? The first thing that catches our attention is the text generation tool. You input a few bullet points – NetSuite creates ready-made job or product descriptions. Not with generic wording, but customized to the language and tone of the company.

It may not change the whole business model. But it saves time. Time that would otherwise be spent on repetitive tasks, reviews and formulations. And this is exactly what AI does best – taking away the boring stuff so that people can focus on the important stuff.

An AI agent in the system – not on the side
Another innovation is NetSuite’s own AI agent. Not a standalone chatbot or assistant – but a function that lives in the workflows. It understands the data you already have in the system, suggests actions or identifies errors – and can, if you want, implement them yourself.

Imagine you’re managing accounts payable and the system suddenly reacts: “This invoice looks to be 10x above the normal level – do you want to double-check?” That’s not just smart. It’s safe.

It’s about a kind of digital colleague. Not perfect. But always awake, always consistent – and always ready to lighten the load.

Reporting in plain Swedish – well, almost
Perhaps the most exciting feature is the Suite Analytics Assistant. You can, in principle, ask a question in plain words: “Show sales in Västra Götaland in March.” The system responds – not with a document to interpret, but with a ready-made chart or report.

It allows more people to make faster decisions. You no longer need to be an analyst to get business insights. And it frees up time – not least for the finance department, which often becomes a bottleneck when it comes to producing figures.

But how safe is AI – really?
No AI initiative is complete without addressing security. And here Oracle is open about the risks. Chess talked about the dark side of AI – for example, how generative tools can create realistic but false receipts. That’s why NetSuite has built in protections that detect anomalies and flag documents as “abnormal”.

The system also works on Oracle’s own infrastructure – OCI – which means that data never leaves the internal ecosystem. You remain in control, and no AI features are activated without your prior approval.

For Swedish companies with high demands on GDPR, data sovereignty and audit trails, this is an important signal.

What does all this mean – in practice?
The impact of NetSuite’s AI is not felt in the form of dramatic changes overnight – but through a series of small, but significant, improvements in everyday life. Automated text generation saves time in content work, discrepancies in supplier invoices are caught earlier, and financial statements are simplified with AI-driven reconciliation suggestions. It’s about freeing up time, reducing manual work and increasing accuracy – step by step.

NetSuite’s AI capabilities have begun to roll out in Europe, with the UK being one of the first markets. Features such as Text Enhance and SuiteAnalytics Assistant are already available there. For Sweden, there is no official timetable yet, partly due to requirements related to data sovereignty and regional infrastructure. Once it becomes available for the Swedish market, Noresca’s customers (and other interested parties) will receive information about schedules, functionality and rollout – and of course we will also offer training.

So what happens with NetSuite and AI? The answer is simple: it integrates. For real. And it changes everything.
